ABOUT THE SHOWCASE
The Visual Art & Design Showcase is an annual event held by the University of Missouri, in which undergraduate Mizzou students are given the opportunity to discuss and present their work in an exhibition setting. The showcase features a variety of artistic expression and applied design, yet only 50 students are admitted into the showcase among the infinite number of applicants. A panel of judges, experts in their respective fields of art and design, speaks with each of the 50 participants, and reviews their works for an award of up to $8000 in professional development funds.

YEAR OF THE WHITE BULL
Year of the White Bull is my own interpretation of a calendar in which a series of twelve sketchbooks are introduced in place of the traditional monthly planner. Dedicated to guiding the creative mind out of an artist’s block, this series is designed to aid in the exploration of creativity, enhancement of artistic ability, and above all, revival of inspiration. Much like Hemingway’s quote explains, the blank page can be as intimidating as facing a bull head-on, yet, it is this thrill that should inspire our imagination and spark creativity, not hinder it. The focus of these challenges, ranging from stylistic progression to the reinforcement of confidence and skills, collectively results in the further development of artistic identity. I have constructed this series in hopes that fellow creatives will renew their passion and gain a better understanding of who they are as individuals and how to successfully express this through their work. Details of each challenge are located on the backs of each sketchbook.
INTERACTIVE SKETCHBOOK
It was important to me that my display be immersive and provoke creativity, so I created an opportunity for others to contribute to the project. I placed a blank sketchbook, among my completed sketchbooks I had laid out for viewing, and wrote a call-to-action around it on my table-cover, encouraging others to draw something.
It's still one of my favorite sketchbooks to look at.
